The exhibition, which will be installed on two floors of Wistariahurst Museum, pays homage to the women who formed the core of the historic textile industry in Holyoke and to the individuals who taught at beloved institutions such as the Holyoke Creative Arts Center and the Skinner Coffee House, ensuring the survival of these intricate art forms. At the same time, it celebrates all those who carry on that legacy today, showcasing artists who are breaking new ground as they explore form, media, and meaning through fiber arts.
Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to see pieces from the Wistariahurst Archive’s textile collection alongside contemporary pieces by artists across the Pioneer Valley. From 19th century samplers, to intricate quilts, to modern fashion, Homespun shows off the wide range of what is possible with a little thread and a little fabric.
We will also have a pop-up store featuring handwoven products throughout the exhibit at Wistariahurst!
Shout out to the talented Michelle of Falcón Fontánez Foto for the photo we are using in the exhibition promo materials!
